Organization Roles and Permissions in TaskRely
TaskRely has a role that controls what someone can do across the whole organization, and a completely separate role that controls what they can do inside one project. Both get called "role," which is exactly why it's worth being clear about which one you're looking at.
Two different kinds of role
A project role - Admin, Write, or Read - is set per project, per person, and only affects that one project. See Project settings & access for that one.
An organization role - what this guide is about - is set once per person and follows them everywhere in the organization: performance data, org-wide reports, admin pages. Someone can easily be an Admin on one project, Read-only on another, and still just a plain Member of the organization overall - the two don't have to match.
The three organization roles
TaskRely describes them the same way right in the role picker itself:
- Admin - manages the organization, invites members, and sees everyone. This is the only role that can open Settings, Integrations, the Audit Log, and Scoring Readiness, and the only one that can change anyone else's organization role.
- Manager - sees the members assigned to them. A manager gets access to org-wide Reports on top of that, and is who you'd assign as someone's manager for performance purposes, or as a department lead on a project.
- Member - sees only their own performance. This is the default for everyone who isn't explicitly made an Admin or Manager, and it doesn't limit what they can do on individual projects - that's entirely down to their project role instead.
Changing someone's role
Open Organization from the sidebar - only an org Admin can change a role here; everyone else just sees their own listed as a plain badge. Find the person in the list and use the role dropdown next to their name.
Removing someone from the organization entirely is a separate action, right next to it. It takes away their access to org-wide features - performance, activity logs - but doesn't touch any project memberships they already have; those stay exactly as they were.
