Getting started
Project Settings and Managing Access in TaskRely
Everything that shapes how a project looks and who can touch it lives under one tab: Settings. Getting it right matters - it's what keeps the wrong people from editing things they shouldn't, and keeps your board's labels, statuses, and priorities matching how your team actually works instead of some default nobody chose. This covers every page inside it - updating the project itself, inviting and managing people, setting permissions, and editing the labels, statuses, priorities, sizes, and departments your board is built from.
Getting to settings
Open the project, then click the ••• icon at the top of the page and choose Settings. That drops you into a page with its own side menu - Project settings, Manage access, Permissions, then Label, Status, Priority, Size, and Departments underneath. Everything below lives in that menu.
Project settings
The first tab covers the project itself: its logo, name, description, and README, plus who's allowed to see it - just the members you've added, everyone on a chosen team, or the whole organization. Team and organization visibility only let people browse the board; they still need an invite before they can be assigned a task or leave a comment. Change what you need and click Save Changes.
Further down, an admin can export every task, comment, member, and review as a backup file, or close and delete the project entirely - both sit in their own clearly marked section so they're never one accidental click away.
Manage access
This is where people get added to the project and where you decide what each of them can do. Search the member list, invite someone new by email, or change an existing member's role between Admin (can manage the project and its members), Write (can see and work on it), and Read (can only view it). You can also assign a member to one or more departments here, which controls which department dashboard they land on.
Removing someone is just as direct - select them and click Remove selected. The project owner can't be removed or downgraded from here, and you can't change your own role by accident either.
Permissions
Permissions goes a level deeper than roles, and it's admin-only. Pick a role (Admin, Write, or Read) from the dropdown to set what that role can do by default across the whole project, or pick one specific person to override just their own access without changing their role. Flip the toggles for whatever that role or person should or shouldn't be able to do - anything you've customized for a person shows a small "Custom" badge, so it's obvious later that it's not just the role default.
Labels, statuses, priorities, sizes & departments
These five pages all work the same way. Each one shows a list you can drag into a new order, a New button to add another option, and a small ••• menu on every row to edit or delete it. Statuses, priorities, sizes, and departments let you make several changes and click Save changes once you're happy with them; labels save the moment you add or edit one, with no separate save step.
A couple of things worth knowing: reordering statuses changes the column order on the board itself, and departments need at least one left in the list, since every task belongs to a department behind the scenes.
